Characteristic

Iridium(III) Chloride Hydrate is an excellent water soluble crystalline Iridium source for uses compatible with chlorides. Chloride compounds can conduct electricity when fused or dissolved in water. Chloride materials can be decomposed by electrolysis to chlorine gas and the metal.

Chemical formula:H2Cl3IrO

Molecular Weight 316.59g/mol

Appearance Black crystals, lumps, or chunks

Density 5.3 g/cm3

Application

Iridium(III) chloride is used in iridium electroplating, in making the standard meter bar of paris and crucibles. It is used for high temperature electrical contacts, as hardening agent, in tipping pens and compass bearings and Pt/Ir spark plugs. It is used for medical, surgical or other patient oriented applications, MMO (mixed metal oxide) titanium electrode coatings and as a starting material for heterogeneous catalysts.
