What is Hafnium Diboride HfB2 Powder

Hafnium Diboride (HfB2) Powder Hafnium diboride It is also known as HfB2. Its crystal system is hexagonal.

Hafnium Diboride Powder HfB2 Physicochemical Properties
HfB2 is a ceramic with a melting temperature of 3380. High purity, small particles, uniform distribution and large surface areas, high surface activities, low loose density as well as high conductivity and stable chemical properties are some of its best features. At room temperatures, hafnium Diboride reacts with almost all chemical reagents but HF.

Hafnium Diboride (HfB2) Powder: Applications
Hafnium diboride exhibits high thermal conductivity as well as high electrical conductivity. It is mainly used in aviation, aerospace, and high-speed aircraft nosecones. It is used in high-temperature ceramics as a possible candidate material and also in high-temperature oxidation environments.

What is Ultra-High-Temperature Ceramics (UHTCs)?
UHTC is a class of ceramics with exceptional stability at temperatures exceeding 2000 degrees C. It has been investigated for use in thermal protection systems, coatings to protect materials from high temperatures and bulk materials heating elements.
The AIR Force Materials Laboratory funded the development of a high-temperature material in the early 60s to meet the needs of the aerospace industry. This new material was designed to withstand hypersonic aircraft, such as the Boeing X-. They found, through a study of the fire-resistance of binary ceramics that the early transitional metals carbides, borides and nitrides possessed a surprising thermal conductivity. ZrB2 (and HfB2) of composites containing around 20% volume SiC has the best performance.
UHTC is an early transition metal nitride (or carbide), boride (or boride), and oxide. Current efforts are focused on heavy early-transition metal borides like hafnium diboride and zirconium boride. UHTCs that are being studied for TPS include titanium carbide, titanium nitride, thorium dioxide and other composites.
Diborides are characterized by a lower melting point and higher thermal conductivity compared to carbides and Nitrides. This gives them excellent thermal shock resistance, and makes them suitable for many high temperature thermal applications.
